The challenge

BlockBusters, the Minecraft challenge chat controls

A mining marathon that your viewers steer. This page is the whole rulebook. It covers the goal, how chat pays, what the effects do, the optional reset and what the streamer controls.

What BlockBusters is

BlockBusters is one of four modes in MineControl, the free mod that connects your Minecraft world to your stream. You start with a block goal. Every block you mine counts toward it and every payment from chat pushes it further away. The run ends when you catch the goal.

A classic run starts at 10,000 blocks. Because viewers can keep adding blocks for as long as the stream runs, a run goes on for days of play. Along the way each payment also sets off an effect in your world, so chat helps and hinders you at the same time.

The mod runs on your own PC in a single-player world. Landmark Desktop installs it and keeps it updated, and the game stays on Minecraft Java Edition with the Fabric loader.

The rules in short

Every run follows the same few rules.

Every effect and what it does

Starting prices are in coins and one coin is one cent. The streamer can change any price, pause any effect and hide effects from the menu.

Prices on a live run page can differ because each streamer sets their own.

The counters refresh about once a minute. If a streamer is offline the page says so and shows no number.

Every way chat can pay

Viewers pay in whatever their platform uses, and each payment adds blocks at the streamer's rate.

Resets, deaths and spawn zones

A streamer can switch on a reset. When the counter reaches the final stretch, viewers can team up to add a large chunk of blocks and send the counter back to zero. Each reset costs more than the last. Resets are off by default.

Deaths are tracked. Every 500 deaths open a new spawn zone 512 blocks out, up to four around world spawn, and death rewards give the streamer better gear as deaths add up.

Every run has a public stats page with the block counter, latest effects, top supporters, effects over time, deaths and a spawn map.

What viewers see

Viewers watch on the streamer's Landmark page. The block counter sits on the video and the menu of effects sits underneath, each with its coin price.

Viewers can also send bits or gifts on the platform they already use. The effect plays in the world either way.

The other three modes

MineControl has Casual, Parkour and Fill the Pit as well. Casual has no goal and effects fire while you play. Parkour sends you across a generated course while chat sets you back. Fill the Pit has you fill a glass pit to win rounds while chat undoes the work.
